Yes I wanted to say that there is air in the hydraulic lifters. My car is running on a Aral 10w/40. Next time I'll try 0w/40. And this one "hydraulic valve lifter additive", you are mixing with the oil?

There is one more thing that is interesting. Since it become cold, the engine is starting always at second try, not first second and never third. :)) Is there something to worry about?

There is air in the hydraulic lifters because the oil runs off after the engine is turned off. If you start the engine there is no oil in the lifters and because of this they chatter until the oil is pumped into them. If you use an oil like 0w40 it is pumped in more quickly and it shatters only shortly, but the thicker oil like 10w40 or 15w40 is pumped in slowlier so the chattering holds on longer.
You mix the additive with the oil (it this: http://www.amazon.de/Loctite-HYDRO-ST%C ... B0010543XO).

Concerning the starting problems may be caused by the problem angel mentioned.

Maybe the battery is running low...

pepper hat am 26.12.2008, 10:14:Hi, I've just registered!

Visiting your site lately, I decided to register! I drive a Carisma '97 GDI. Lovely car, never get enough form "her".
Unfortunately I have some problems with the engine, sounds very noisy when it starts cold, after warming up thing got better. I guess it's related with Lash adjuster air bleeding. Is there method to stop this annoying sound?

Thank you !

Welcome to Dreamcarisma ;)

If I was able to unterstood you correctly your problem is connected to the hydraulic valve lifters (I didn't find a translation for "Lash adjuster"). If there is a pretty loud ticking or chattering direct after starting your problem should be the hydraulic valve lifters because if it gets better after the engine is warm this is a typical problem of the GDI.
Which kind of oil do you use? If you use a mineral kind of oil (like 15w40) you should try to swap to a synthetic kind of oil (0w40). Here in Germany you can buy a so called "Hydrostösseladditiv" which means translated "hydraulic valve lifter additive", if this is available in your country you should put this in to your oil, too.

If you have any further questions just ask.
